Recensione Acer Iconia B1
Recensione Acer Iconia B1 Review Part 2 - Here’s a MediaWorld’s PDF, quite heavy for the graphic, and it’s good The same is for e-books you can read with the Amazon app and for all operations that don’t require a big processing power, actually most of those available on the Google Play Store. Compared to models of the same price, mainly Chinese models or all those Mediacom you could buy in any mall, this Acer has, in addition, GPS and Bluetooth, so here we have Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work well, reception is good, also due to the plastic frame, no metal to limit the range so. With GPS is quite the opposite, there are clear issues with satellite lock, only outdoor reception is good. Indoor, as in this case, where other tablets easily lock about ten satellites, here I’m stuck to zero, as you see I’m lucky if I can find one or two.

In Rome I could decently use it with CoPilot, but I definitely can’t suggest you this model as car navigator, ‘cause just moving under a bridge or something you lose signal and it becomes almost useless for that purpose. Battery life is good instead, 4200 mAh, good performances from this point of view. On average, I reached about 6 hours and a half with Wi-Fi on and almost full brightness. Actually a rough estimate is between 4 and a half and 6 hours, and that’s not bad given the price too. Management of stand-by is great too, ‘cause it doesn’t discharge when it’s off, I kept it for a week-end without charging and then I found the battery at the same level.

Recensione Acer Iconia B1Moreover it’s a small battery, so recharging is fast, with the charger you find in the box or with the micro-USB cable connected to a PC. To this end, notice this microUSB is not OTG, so USB keys can’t be connect. To sum up, I think for 119 Euros it’s worth buying this Acer tablet, it’s cheap, two years of warranty, you can find it in every shopping center so no shipment costs or such. And most of all that’s an Acer, so however low-quality the product may be, software updates and technical support will be great. The screen is five-points multi-touch and it’s quite responsive, but it’s no high quality, so don’t expect wide viewing angles. if you tilt it just a little, you see nothing. More often than not you’ll need full brightness to have a devent view… but, again, given the price that’s fair enough.

Just buy it if you’re looking for a no-frills tablet, if you want to budget ‘cause you’re not familiar with this field or if you want an extra tablet for your kids, or girlfriend… to use it in certain contexts, maybe paired with a more powerful smartphone or a more performing 10-inch tablet. But if you’re ok with spending 100 Euros more, my advice is always the same: search for better devices like, you know, Nexus 7.
